It’s that time of the year again – melon season is almost in full swing, YES!!  Watermelon is approximately 92% water so when picking one out, make sure it’s super heavy.  It should also be yellowish on the side it grew on, free from bruising, and have a firm exterior when you knock on it.  The watermelon should not have any give or softness to it.

Because watermelon contains so much water, it is a whole body cleanser that has positive effects on the kidney, bladder, heart, stomach, colon and liver.  It naturally acts as a rejuvenating blood tonic and is an alkalizing food that helps balance pH levels.  It also has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and anti-coagulating qualities and is an effective digestion aid and laxative.  Not to mention, it is absolutely delicious and refreshing!

When consuming watermelon, don’t forgot to chew up and eat the seeds!  The seeds are loaded with energy, vitamins, minerals and protein (1 gram of protein per 24 seeds!).  They also have healthy fats that can reduce blood cholesterol and high blood pressure.  We have been given so many wonderful gifts from this Earth and I am grateful every day for the abundance I have in my mind, body and spirit.  Eat foods that help heal you from the inside out!

Recipe

Yields 4 liters

  •  Large Watermelon
  1. Chop up your watermelon and place it in to a blender.  All it needs is about 10 seconds on a low speed.  You can drink it with the watermelon chunks as a smoothie, or you can get a nut bag or cheese clothe and strain the watermelon for a smooth, “pulp free” juice!  Enjoy! Xx
